Case studies worth a last minute look at

IMG_6448

Question 2 – Changing Urban Environments “Improving Squatter Settlements”

Question 4  – Development Gap “International Aid” (and how it is sustainable)

Question 6 – Tourism “Tourism in an Extreme Environment”

We do

  • Rocinha and the Favela Bairro
  • Water aid (and fair trade if you wish)
  • Antarctica

I won’t link to all the resources on this blog for these 3 case studies. I am sure you can use the category cloud and find them. But here is a link to the skeleton revision cards I have produced that show the sections within each case study you need to know

Half term Geography Revision

How to Structure your Revision

Hello

Well done for getting through the Physical paper on Tuesday. Now there is about 12 days till your last Geography GCSE paper. Its the human paper.

The 3 topics we are doing are:

  • Changing Urban Environments
  • Development Gap and
  • Tourism

They will be questions 2, 4 and 6 in the exam!!

HOW TO REVISE:

a) Go through a PLC (personal learning checklist) for each topic. to see what you know, partly know and don’t know.

changing Urban environments PLC

Dev Gap PLC

Tourism PLC

b) Revise the stuff you don’t know so well (don’t do the stuff you already know)

c) test your knowledge using past exam questions. These two links take you to all the foundation and all the higher papers over the last 5 years , as well as the mark schemes (so you can check your answers) and the inserts.

(I have already written an article about “Effective Revision” which happens to use tourism as an example so you could watch the video in that. Your PLCs have been updated since then though,  so you would be better off using the 3 above)

Finally of course there are a few years worth of resources, revision help, videos et al on the blog so use those too. If you get really stuck ask a question to @stedsgeography on twitter

GOOD LUCK!

Help in revising Case Studies – Revision Cards

In the last couple of years a lot more pupils are using cards to help them revise. I worry that you may either be taking the wrong type of notes or maybe just copying out notes. Neither of which is going to help much. Therefore, I have drawn out some very simple ‘skeleton case study cards’ to guide you. After completing each one the best thing, as always, is to try a past exam question. (the top left box says PSI or Place Specific Information, which is the unique details, location and facts about the event or place you need to know)

I also include a link below to the case study revision cards by topic

Changing Urban Environments Skeleton Revision Cards

Development Gap Skeleton Revision Cards

Tourism Skeleton Revision Cards

Revising some of Changing urban Environments

This revision lesson is partly based around the excellent www.coolgeography.co.uk website

It covers housing in richer cities and squatter settlements in poorer ones. It looks at brown and greenfield sites and includes a link to an excellent Water Aid video. This means you are also revising the development gap project and ideas of aid and sustainable aid and international aid

The water aid video mentioned in the last 2 slides can be found here

What a lot of revision 🙂
