Global Cities – A general revision page from the BBC

The BBC has a general information revision page for global cities: click here

There are 4 pages to read and they are good for global cities in LICs especially. I would definitely use this page if i were you but be aware you still need to know about Mumbai and Sydney – the two global cities we learnt in class.

Below are the key word and skeleton revision card for this whole topic.

Globalisation and Development Revision part 1 Aid

Since we are unlikely to cover this topic in any depth I am putting here some revision resources for the global development and globalisation topic. Here you can find resources for aid: long term and short term. Most of which will be based in Nepal. The longer term aid will be focused on the work water aid does and the sorter term emergency aid will be based on responses to the earthquake of 2015.

Water Aid – long term aid

Long term aid should always look to be SUSTAINABLE (looking after and developing people and the environment both today and in the future) We looked at the wonderful across the tracks mini film. You can re-watch it here. Look for how both people’s lives and the urban environment are being improved. You should also consider quality of life (how content people are with their lives) and standard of living (how much money people have and what it can buy them)

You can also watch this shorter video on other benefits of water aid. It is excellent and really covers the long term social and economic benefits very well.

There is also this great student work on the effects of water aid

water aid effects

Short term or emergency aid

read about Oxfam’s responses here (Oxfam is a good example of an NGO) Oxfam_s response to Nepal Quake April 2015

And this powerpoint has 5 short videos we used in class and a task to help you watch them and take notes. Revising emergency aid in Nepal

Finally, as already shared on this blog there are the skeleton revision card and key word list. You could work out all the key words first and then use them to help you answer the questions on the skeleton cards or you could start with the cards and work out the key words as you go along. Be aware with the skeleton revision cards that summing up each topic with just 4-8 questions means that you will need to spend a lot of time on each one to cover the whole topic properly.

Revising small scale ecosystem: sand dunes

studlandHere is a powerpoint to guide you through what you need to revise. small scale ecosystem revision.

Basically, what you need to know about a small scale ecosystem is split into 3 parts: (however I do think 2 and 3 are really 2 parts of the same idea)

  1. What are the characteristics of a sand dune ecosystem?
  2. How do they benefit local communities?
  3. What management issues are there for looking after sand dune ecosystems?

The text book we use is good for this (whereas there is nothing on sand dunes in the revision guide). Here are some photos of the relevant pages. Open the powerpoint above and you will find the revision tasks you can complete for this.
